Historic Genoa lies nestled in the foothills of the Sierras on the west side of the Carson Valley.  Approximately 6 miles from Minden this charming little community  boasts of being Nevada's First Settlement.  Founded in 1851 it was known as the Mormon Station.  By 1861, the population of Genoa counted 155 souls of German, Danish, Italian, and English nationalities.  Genoa was the major city in the western Utah Territory until the discovery of the Comstock Lode and development of Virginia City.

Today Genoa has a charm not found elsewhere in the Carson Valley.  It has retained its historical and small town character and many new and old Victorian homes exist in the area.  The Courthouse and Museum, Genoa Town Hall, Genoa Trading Company, Genoa Bar and Mill Creek Galleries are but a few of the attractions in the area.  Genoa Lakes Golf Course and Sierra Nevada Golf Ranch are located not far from the center of town.  Walley's Hot Springs is a favorite eating spot as well as it's refreshing hot spas and overnight facilities.  Wild Rose Inn and Genoa House Inn are local bed and breakfast spots. A few of the local events include the Candy Dance Craft Faire held the last full weekend in September, Snowshoe Thompson Festival in June, and Pops in the Park on July 4th.

Many homes are for sale in this area as well as homes along Foothill Road nearby.  These westside homes have wonderful views of the Carson Valley and the pinenut mountains to the east.
