Many folks find the Topaz Lake and the surrounding areas of Topaz Ranch Estates, Holbrook, Pleasant Meadows, and Spring Valley is just about perfect.  In this southern-most section of Douglas County there is lots of open space, hunting and fishing, community activities, boating and plenty of utility roads for back country 4-wheeling.

There are several small general stores, the Topaz Lodge, Topaz Landing Marina, a service station, and RV park.  Topaz Ranch Estates nearby is home to many independent folks that love their outdoor space and freedom.  The homes here tend to be more affordable than elsewhere in the county and access to BLM land is easy to find.  There is estimated to be around 800 homes in the area and prices range from the below $200,000 to some for over $700,00 in the Holbrook and Spring Valley area.

Only 25 minutes from Gardnerville and south on Highway 395 many families find that they can commute easily to Minden and Gardnerville for work and be out fishing on the lake for a relaxing evening.
