There is local bus transportation: DART (Douglas Area Rapid Transit) offers Dial-a-Ride transportation for seniors, special needs, and the general public. Advance rides requests are required. For medical transportation, at least two weeks notice is required. Services are provided Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please call 775 783-6456 to schedule a ride. The Greyhound Bus Line provides service from Reno 775-322-2970. BlueGO is a service of the South Tahoe Area Transit Authority. BlueGO provides fixed route, demand response, ski shuttles, seasonal trolley service and commuter express routes on the south shore of Lake Tahoe and to the Carson Valley.
The Valley has one taxi company, Minden Taxi 775-265-7060, that provides service in the Carson Valley and one at Stateline. A shuttle service is also available to provide direct service to and from the Reno/Tahoe Airport.
There is not a rail service (passenger or freight) available in Douglas County. However, there is a rail service available in Reno/Sparks and it is provided by Amtrak, Southern Pacific, and Union Pacific.
The County owns and operates the Minden-Tahoe Airport, a public general aviation airport. 775-782-9871. The facility offers: charter service, auto rental, airplane rental, tie downs, aviation fuel, and other support services. The facility has two runways, the longest at 7,395 feet and the other at 5,289 feet.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport is approximately one hour away.
Fire and Law
The Sheriff’s Department consists of sworn officers, reserve officers, a Search and Rescue Unit, Mounted Posse, and numerous volunteer office staff manning three substations. The Sheriff’s Office provides all law enforcement services within the County.
