March 19th at 9:30 pm PDT Spring officially arrived in the Carson Valley. Yesterday was the Spring Equinox which brought the valley 12 hours and 5 minutes of day light. Usually, the Earth rotates the sun at a tilt, with degrees of angle changing through each season. On Equinox days, the Earth’s axis is perpendicular to the sun’s rays. This is the earliest start to spring since 1896. (Source:
We’ve been enjoying spring like temperatures in and around Tahoe with temps in the high 60’s the last few days. But as spring often does, the weather is unpredictable. Today, March 20th, the weather started to change. The winds began and a storm is moving in. Temperatures are dropping into the 50s and 40s for the next few days and then rising again into the 60s by Wednesday. And precip is possible on Monday and Tuesday.
So while things are blooming and beautiful, winter isn’t totally done with us yet!
